Winter Patrol Season Open

The Indian Peaks and James Peak Wilderness areas and the Brainard Recreation Area are popular areas for recreation year-round. Our dedicated volunteer rangers patrol the trails in uniform providing assistance to visitors, monitoring trail usage and conditions for the Forest Service, and helping with trail maintenance and restoration projects. While most of our volunteers patrol during the summer and fall months from June - October, we also have a smaller cadre of winter patrollers out on the trails during the winter months from November through May. For more information visit the Winter Patrol Program page.
